I remembered this story really differently as a kid -- or this version is really different than the one I had as a kid. I remembered a story that taught kids it's OK to be different. I ordered this book and read it to my son (who loves ducks). This book ended by essentially saying that in order to be happy, you should only spend time with people who look like you. We will not continue reading this to my son.
The translation and illustrations are good but the actual story is terrible, it's a very abbreviated version of the ugly duckling story I remember and the moral is missing/wrong. Would not recommend this version or this book to other parents looking for bilingual English/Spanish books.
I bought this book without reading the reviews, so I was not warned that this is a distorted version of the classic story. In here the ugly duck is bullied until he finds his tribe and then everybody is happy. What a horror. The original message of acceptance and evolving has been changed to one of segregation. This book is not worth the paper is printed on, so I am returning it with indignation.
This version had an odd ending, the moral of the story seems to be to be that you don't fit in with those that don't look like you and do with those that do... different from the story I remember
I have to agree with a bunch of the other reviews...this book is just not good. The story line is so dumbed down that the actual moral that I remember from it as a kid is completely absent. This is so simplified and watered down that it’s not even worth reading...my 3yo doesn’t mind, because she LOVES books, but this is even below her content-wise. I only wish I had looked at them before making the purchase!
The translation is fine. I'm thinking maybe the message isn't so great. If you're different go away.
As a beginning Spanish learner, I had hoped for an easier read. I needed the translator to help with speaking, but will continue to try until I get it. Like the English Spanish together in the book, so it helps with learning Spanish words.
I use this to learn Spanish as a second language. I like this book it. It helping me to expand my language. There wasn't no dislike, I like the book.
