"For over 10 years Heather has been my primary reference point and mentor for all things pertaining to online community management and social networking for nonprofits. If I want to find out who is doing social media correctly, I always look to Heather's blog and tweets. All of us here at TechSoup deeply respect, value, and recommend her work."- Susan Tenby, Director, Online Community and Social Media, TechSoup.org "In a world that seems to be overpopulated with social media experts, Heather is the real thing. Her passion and intuition have made her an invaluable resource to the nonprofit community and she makes social media accessible regardless of position or involvement. Over the years she has been instrumental in my understanding of the sector and continues to impress me with her knowledge and ability to communicate best practices."- Danielle Brigida, Digital Marketing Manager, National Wildlife Federation "Heather is great. She has been a real change maker for Safe Kids. She presented a social media training to our affiliates at our annual conference in 2008 and as one of the most popular sessions, our affiliates are still talking about it - 60% of which now actively use social media. Whenever we have a question about social media we always return to Heather's blog Nonprofit Tech 2.0 for advice, and no doubt we will be regularly using her book too."- Line Storgaard-Conley, Director of Interactive Services, Safe Kids USA/Safe Kids Worldwide "Heather practices what she preaches: she is passionate about social media, and a friendly and generous member of the nonprofit community. When I want to know what my organization should be doing, I first turn to Heather's blog and LinkedIn Group."- Erica Burman, Director of Communications, National Peace Corps Association "We use something we've learned from Heather almost daily. Her relentless research is only superseded by her passion to see nonprofits succeed. Social media is a critical tool we use to help gain support for our military families and wounded warriors, and because they deserve our best efforts, this book will be within reach on all our desks."- Susan Miller, Director of Online Communications, Operation Homefront

This book deserves a fair number of stars just for one thing: it finally got our nonprofit magazine, Synchronized Chaos, to stop sending announcements by cc'ing people in emails and to invest in Constant Contact. This made us a whole lot more professional and is much easier to deal with.Overall easy-to-read, specific, good advice...much of it geared to someone who has a whole workday dedicated to managing various online publicity outlets for just one organization (which is likely the target audience.) I'm a publicist working with multiple books and groups, so have been passing on these suggestions to others.
Heather Mansfield does a great job breaking down all the social media components for nonprofits to be successful. I have worked in the nonprofit field for many years and I am finding this book as a fantastic resource. I'm constantly referring back to different sections and will have multiple marketing staff read the book. I also attended one of Heather's webinars and it was informative I had to purchase her book. Anyone working in the nonprofit world would benefit from this book, even small businesses would benefit from the advice. This will be a well thumbed through book with lots of highlights.
I found ths book to be VERY useful. As a small NGO I have no staff. This book fills me in as if I had a 3 or 4 person team. When I go out for help I feel like I know what I am talking about. Whether paid or volunteer help I get much better results. I bought a second copy as a gift for a friend who also has an NGO. He seems to like it even more than I do.For me I call this just in time publishing, what I needed just when I needed it.
This is one of the best, perhaps THE best, book on social media I've read. Heather Mansfield's advice on social media strategy is excellent. And she provides practical advice on how to do the things she recommends. While the book is targeted specifically to nonprofits, it's useful for people who are not in the nonprofit world. I consider this book a great investment.
Well written, with good summary lists of actions and best practices examples at the back of each chapter. Specific how-to's were very helpful. With social media changing at the speed of light, some of the specifics are already out of date, but I would look beyond that, and recommend this text as a good basis to understand the best practices in social media
great book; fast ship
This is a TERRIFIC resource for NPOs worldwide. It is chock-full of proven methods of increasing visibility of your NPO. The tips and 'examples of excellence' are well-researched and timely. My advice is to buy this book and refer to it time and time again when planning your social media strategy. Heather Mansfield has hit this one out of the park! Thanks for producing such a rich and fact-filled source for nonprofits everywhere. --JB
Every nonprofit needs to have a social media business plan. This book is my number one pick for building the foundation for that business plan. I look forward to the update...
